One small step for mankind, One big step for the me!

Well it finally arrived, my new bed. I don’t think I have had a full bed since I was in high school! I’ve been sleeping on just a frame for almost 20 years, way too long. I picked out one of our new Private Label beds and had it upholstered in De La Cuona fabric. I am definitely not a girly girl, so this simple herringbone pattern was just the right touch of masculine against the bright orange lamps.

And on the other side of my room, I finally decided to add some art ( or what I consider art). At a recent trip to Brimfield, we found these oversized prints that used to hang in the Park Plaza hotel about 20 years ago. This is an image of what Boston Common looked like a few years ago :) Sorry the tv is blocking the view, but it just feels so calm with the pastoral view and oversized tree. I guess it just makes me happy, and really fills the space on the wall. I’m hoping that my husband can hang it up in the next few weeks…oh, and maybe finally get those stripes up in the hallway!!!
Back to the bedroom, I am almost done. So lamps, check. Night tables, check. Bed, check. Art, check. The last few things are new sheets and a new rug. Sheets i’m going to order this weekend, i’ve been waiting to finally order white linen sheets from Matteo and gosh darn it i’m going to do it! For the rug, I have to figure this one out….it will have to be custom made because the traditional sizes won’t cover both directions… I’m hoping to find a good deal at Landry & Arcari…wish me luck!

It seems as though Dylan is happy with the new bed! She was climbing up there all day and sliding off all night. Listen, any chance to put a great shot of my daughter on here, i’m going to take it…Enjoy! and remember to keep commenting!
Small Changes at the Hudson Homestead…..

Everyone has been asking for it, and I’m sorry that it hasn’t taken so long, but here are some updates.
First of all, I am so excited that my new bedside lamps have arrived! I ordered the most gorgeous 4-arm candelabra lamps in orange from our good friends at Dunes & Duchess. They really set the stage by adding way more light and more romance ; ) And look great against the side tables I picked out at Hudson.
Now don’t get upset by the old school Robshaw sheeting. Once my upholstered bed arrives in the next few weeks, I plan on ordering some white linen sheets from Matteo. And I promise to get pictures up sooner once the bed does arrive!!

Well everyone has been asking for it-the update on my hallway. Sad to say, there has been a change of plans. Finally had the wallpaper hanger Walter over to give me the roll requirement, 6 single rolls. Called Brunschwig & Fils to order my Albert Hadley Fireworks paper, and wouldn’t you know it, they had 4 rolls available with no production scheduled anytime soon. (Actually, no time soon. No date for production at all) So needless to say, that wallpaper was off. Damien and I spent some frustrating times discussing what we should do instead-new wallpaper?, paint?…..what to do!!!! The easiest solution at the time was to use some remaining green paint we had used in the store for the sconce wall…it’s beautiful but pretty intense. I’ve lived with it for a few weeks, and have decided that it has to go and we MUST wallpaper that darn hall. I actually demanded it be wallpaper the other night (which I stated with full zeal!)
So the new plan, keep the same ceiling fixture (still waiting for the electrician to put it up – hello???), new runner (we put the one i blogged about down but it was actually too new, I wanted a runner with much more age), and put grasscloth up on the walls. I still have to pick one out, and get Damien to agree on it. I have a little worry, only because I have grasscloth in my office, but this one will be a different texture and color. We have alot of art we are planning to hang, and could use a more basic background, so grasscloth will be the winner..
Wrong again….already have grasscloth in our office, and figured it was just too much….so now I really believe we have a final winner…a beautiful white and orange horizontal stripe from Kirk Brummel..Its gorgeous and vibrant! i’m waiting to find out how long it will take to come in….so who knows how long until I get photos up…

Alright, first project – the hallway! It’s the center of the house and leads me from Bedroom to Bathroom to Living Room, and most important to Dylan’s bedroom. But sadly this busy intersection has no excitement. I want to bring some sparkle to this lonely hall. So i’ve picked out the classic Albert Hadley Fireworks wallpaper, with it’s classic cream background and black spotted imagery. And thanks for the suggestion from my friend, style maven Stacy Kunstel, I will be covering the whole hall in paper – including the ceiling. The paper is going to work well with the cream paint i’ve picked for the master bedroom (we’ll get to that later!).
To keep the party going – I picked out a crystal semi-flushmount ceiling fixture from Hudson. It will add the perfect sparkle and glow at night. (So much better than the can light that is there now. Which currently has an LED bulb right now, that I know is great for the environment but horrible against any wall.)
And to finish off , I’m going to be adding a vintage Oushak runner on the floor(Also from Hudson). It’s been bare since we moved in, and it always seems so cold. I plan on this rug giving the floor some texture, personality and warmth….
Alright, so wallpaper install is mid-february (wallpaper is backordered), light install is also mid-feb. and the rug should arrive then too. Keep up with me to see the final result!
Next installment – the office. Love my Summer Hill Grasscloth, but need to finally frame some photos, new desk and new lamp. Did I just give it away??
Would love to hear what you think or suggestions! Leave a comment xo Jill
jill’s house: taking care of business

“Your house must be gorgeous!”….I hear that alot from customers. But sadly, I must admit, I am the cobbler with no shoes. It has been exactly 1 year since I bought my first condo. Finally I owned my first home. A place where I could do whatever I wanted to, to the walls, to the floors etc.. But like many of you – life happened. I had a baby, I had 2 stores to run, a growing Interior Design business and not enough $$$ to create the home of my dreams.
But here we are a year later, the baby is growing fast. Isn’t she cute! The business’ seem to be on track (both the stores and the interior design), and the money – well, one can still dream. And the home of my dreams? It is finally time to get my butt into gear, and make this condo a home!
I’m not one for new year’s resolutions but I do tend to make plans. And my plan is to whip this condo into shape for next Christmas. Because next Christmas Eve, I will finally be able to start my own Christmas tradition for my daughter by hosting dinner.
So here we go! The plan: to make this house into a home. (And to share the process with all of you!) Now, here is a little background…My condo is 2 bedrooms, a small office, 2 full baths and a kitchen. When we first moved in the apartment had floor to floor carpeting-not a huge fan, so the one initial expense was to put down hardwood flooring. And truth be told, we used National Floors Direct and they sucked! They didn’t have the flooring we wanted, and then it took them over a week to install. The guys they sent would work for 20 minutes and then take an hour long break. And they missed spots…which they refuse to come back and fix – so lesson learned…NEVER USE NATIONAL FLOORS DIRECT!!! (SPREAD THE WORD). The second expense was building a wall of shelving in the living room. My husband and father-in-law built it themselves..i’m very proud. Finally, I just had to have my grasscloth. As a gift, my favorite wallpaper hanger, hung my favorite grasscloth in my office. I love it! And wish I could hang it everywhere…but sometimes too much is just that-too much. Now take a look at how the condo currently looks….(please no judgements on the mess).
Not horrible, but definitely no poster for Hudson. So please keep reading my posts over the next few weeks and months to watch my progress! I plan on tackling one room at a time, and I plan on sharing everything. I hope to hear your comments along the way! Thanks and welcome to 2011. J
